RCAN 800

Tubolar ceramic support, submerged collars

The RCA is a wire resistance wound on a ceramic tubular support coated with inorganic phosphate cement with clamps beneath the coating. The purpose of the coating is to (1) ensure the mechanical protection of the wire, (2) allow a uniform heat distribution and (3) limit thermal expansion of the coils. The coating does not have an electrical insulation function. The RCA is available in the low inductance version; in this case, it is called RCAN; it is available with an adjustment slider; in this case, it is called RCAR; and with a fixed intermediate socket, in this case, it is called RCAP. The latter cannot be purchased through e-commerce, please contact our sales department: sales@dev.fairfild.com.

In what sectors is this resistance used?

The main areas of application are industrial automation, energy and railway sector.

For what types of applications is it used?

The product is used: as a dynamic terminating resistor, as a basic element in harmonic filter circuits, as a basic element for neutral earthing resistors, in RC circuits as the device for charging and discharging the capacitors and as a heating resistor for electrical panels.

What are the electrical specifications?

The RCA family has 18 models with power ratings from 25 W to 1000 W and the ohmic value ranges between 0.91 Ω and 91k Ω. The maximum voltage of use varies depending on the model.

What are the overload conditions?

The resistance can be overloaded with respect to its nominal power based on the working cycle (insertion and rest time). For duration pulse less than one second, the overload permissible also depends on the ohmic value. For non-repetitive pulses the relation is 10 times the nominal power for 5 seconds.

What is the temperature of the resistance?

The temperature of the resistance depends on the power that it will dissipate. Numerous factors influence the dissipation capacity; please consult our technical data sheet for detailed information. The graph of the data sheet on page 3 shows the relationship between the temperature on the resistance and the power applied for a heating element placed horizontally.
The resistance can be mounted with its SC or SQ mounting brackets; in this regard, see the related products data sheet. For a better heat distribution we suggest mounting it horizontally. The terminals made in nickel-iron alloy enable electrical connection through tinning. On request (not to be purchased via e-commerce) it is possible to provide a male faston cable lead. If installed in a group, we recommend keeping a pitch equal to 2 times the diameter of the resistance.
