Resistors to charge and discharge capacitors

These resistors are used in the RC circuits and they permit the charging (or discharging) of the capacitor in a time that is 4.5 times the thermal time constant. The thermal time constant, also called tau (τ), is calculated by the resistance times the capacitance ( R x C).

If the transient is fast, it is very important to also consider the thermal capacitance.
