What is the Fairfild RFD 200

The RFD is a wire-wound resistor on a mica plate coated with cement, immersed in quartzite sand and placed inside an anodized aluminium housing.

Sealing is carried out using silicone elastomer and ensures an IP54 protection rating. The flat shape of the resistor facilitates installation in electrical panels and on heat sinks.

This structure makes the RFD 200 a resistor with a specific configuration, designed for applications in which installation and integration into the electrical system are aspects to be considered together with the electrical data of the component.

The UL-marked RFD version instead includes 6 models, with rated powers from 25 W up to 200 W and an ohmic value range between 1.5 Ω and 6 kΩ.

For the RFD 200 model, the main data are: continuous rated power of 140 W, tolerance ±5%, minimum resistance of 1.3 Ω, maximum resistance of 18,000 Ω, and rated insulation voltage of 1500 V.

These values make it possible to place the RFD 200 within the RFD family and distinguish it from the other models available in the range.

Available versions and options

The RFD family is available in different versions; the version with non-inductive winding must be requested from the Fairfild sales office.

The version with thermal pad is called RFDT. The RFDV version features a 45° cut of the housing and fastening by slots instead of holes. The RFDVT version combines the 45° housing cut with the thermal pad.

The RFD can also be purchased in the UL-marked version.

For the RFD 200, separately ordered options are available: out-of-spec ohmic values, ohmic value tolerance of 3%, 2%, 1%, 0.5%, and different cable length.

The presence of versions and options makes it possible to evaluate the most suitable configuration according to the model, ohmic value, tolerance, and required installation methods.

Installation instructions

The RFD 200 can be installed horizontally or vertically. In the case of vertical installation, the cables must face downwards.

Installation is carried out using the 4 available holes, or by slots in the case of the 45° RFDV version. The electrical connection is made through supplied unstripped cables.
